A video maker name Nick Gisburne's account was banned for posting simply a video highlighting the violence passages found in the Koran. No commentary mind you, just the offensive verses one after another.

He has reposted the banned video on another account and people can judge the it themselves.

Re: Popular atheist YouTube channel banned unfairly
Fri, February 9, 2007 - 9:53 AMI keep hearing that Muslims are generally peaceful and that it's only a small percentage of extremists that are causing all the violence. Their own scriptures bears witness to THAT lie! -

Re: Popular atheist YouTube channel banned unfairly
Fri, February 9, 2007 - 10:07 AMEvangelical Christianity is no different. A literalist interpretation a la Tim LaHaye and Jeremy Jenkins (the Left Behind authors) believe the world will end with a massive genocide committed by their agape "all-loving" god. Many Christians in the Crossroads of Religions tribe have claimed that the nonchristians "will deserve it for rejecting God's love". -

Fri, February 9, 2007 - 10:39 AMIt blows my mind how the government can feed us this crap about how necessary to invade every 3rd world country in the farthest corners of the earth, yet tolerate (and in some cases pander to) the worst hate mongers on the planet, right here in our own country.

Fri, February 9, 2007 - 10:41 AMCrap, I should have proof read that before posting it. What I meant to say was this.....
It blows my mind how the government can feed us this crap about how necessary it is to invade every 3rd world country in the farthest corners of the earth in order to protect us from religious (islamic) extremism, yet tolerate (and in some cases pander to) the worst religious hate mongers on the planet, right here in our own country.

Re: Popular atheist YouTube channel banned unfairly
Fri, February 9, 2007 - 10:51 AMTheir (LaHaye, Jenkins, Olsteen, Dobson, Robertson, Falwell, Meyers) eschatology amounts to claiming "You did not love me (Jesus) when you had no reason to love me, so now I will kill you and damn you for eternity." If that is the message we are to gleem from Revelation, does that not count as evidence against loving Jesus? That is coercion; it is tantamount to psychological abuse--imagine a husband saying the same to his spouse: "Love and obey me (without question) or I will kill you."

I think we're veering from Jon's point. He wasn't talking about what the Koran said but about the video using only direct quotes from the Koran being banned from YouTube. I sensed that his conern was censorship, not religious beliefs (or Scriptural claims). Further, unless fanatical Muslims run YouTube (-which I doubt) then it was someone else who pulled the plug on the video. Perhaps in response to pressure from members of an offended group (likely Muslim), but still, the plug was pulled by YouTube.
At least, that's what I thought he was complaining about. -

Re: Popular atheist YouTube channel banned unfairly
Fri, February 9, 2007 - 12:08 PMYes, I said something similar below in my comment.
To be honest I think YouTube as a whole is pretty sympathetic to atheism in general. They have featured quite a few pro-atheism related videos on their front page in the last few months.
This is inline with the SF Bay Area's leanings and the folks at YouTube smack dab in the middle of this area. I'm guessing the account ban was decided by a very small number of people. I don't think they thought this through and the reaction it has and is going to generate here in America and the community.

Re: Popular atheist YouTube channel banned unfairly
Fri, February 9, 2007 - 11:26 AMI believe this is an example of Islamic protectionism more than anti-atheism. The sad aspect of this, is that I have watched other atheist videos much, much more critical of Islam and those videos are still up.
Even more popular YouTube video make and atheist CapnOAwesome is very hostile to Islam and has the bomb turbine Muhammad cartoon on the wall behind him in all his videos. Nick I feel is quite claim and rational in his videos compared CapnOAwesome.

Actually, I didn't. I said that given the pervasive dislike / distrust of atheists (-according to the poll under discussion), it's surprising there's not more discrimination against them than there is.
>>>> Let this count as another example. <<<<<<
I think that would be unfair to the New Testament, which doesn't equate "unbelief" and "atheism." (Actually, it was the Romans who called Christians atheists, not the other way around.) Some Christians would read such passages to exclude Jews, Muslims, schismatics, heretics, and pagans, none of whom are atheiests. -

Re: Popular atheist YouTube channel banned unfairly
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 2:07 PMYour latter point is irrelevant to my claim you quote. I agree with your earlier post that YouTube is responsible for pulling the video.
True you technically did not ask for examples but your comment as originally stated implied as much. I agree that we do not see a whole lot of examples in the media. I think part of that reason is because even the media generally supports religious belief even when it may be critical of it on specific issues--like Dobson wanting the HPV vaccine banned. I thought it important to note some examples and found some that the UN examined.
