Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 7:12 PMFrom the article:
<<Mrs Lautsi complained to the European court that her children had to attend a public school in northern Italy that had crucifixes in every room. She was awarded 5,000 euros ($7,400; £4,500) in damages. >>
$7,400 eh? Hmm, come to think of it I have been traumatized by a few crucifixes in my time as well.... -

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Thu, November 5, 2009 - 10:40 AMMy fifth grade homeroom teacher forced us to say the Pledge of Allegiance every day, and I would never voice the words "under God."
I'm still traumatized, I tell you! Must...sue...school district... -

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Thu, November 5, 2009 - 5:22 PMNot that it's any of my business but,
whatcha gonna do with your $7,400?
That might be enough for a decent used car.
Maybe a nice vacation... -

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 12:24 PMI think you guys are missing the point here. The European Human Rights Court has ruled that religious indoctrination in public schools is illegal. This also means that the Anglicans are going to have to take religious shit out of British Schools. This also means that the court has ruled that children have human rights that protect them from abuse.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am doing the happy hamster dance over this. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 12:01 PMI say the pledge with me students, though I don't make them say it and I leave out the 'under god.' No one has noticed it, or, if they have, they haven't mentioned it. One of my students is a Jehovah's Witness. They have to officially inform you, as though it were some kind of disability, which I suppose it is.
I hope I don't get any parent calls about me teaching my kids about mythology and including the story of the Lady of Guadalupe. I may be safe, sine the Mexican parents probably won't complain and the right wing Christians don't care about Catholics. -

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 1:10 PMYes you are right Bill, this is a significant victory which has struck into the very heart of European Christendom.
It is indeed worthy of the happy hamster dance, and as Hammy the Hamster himself would say "This is terrific!"

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 12:43 PMI'm tempted to share this link with others. But I find myself holding back for fear of giving my country's religious folk a reason to dig in their heels. -

Re: Crucifixes: Just Say "No"
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 1:11 PMIf they dig their heels in any farther, they'll end up becoming part of the forest.
